History of Colossal Cave The First Adventure:
The first computer adventure game came alive in a cave, called the
Colossal Cave. Written by William Crowther, it set off an explos-
ion of "look-alike" clones, though none remain as fanciful, as mag-
ical, or as wondrous as Colossal Cave, also known as Adventure. It
represented a new kind of computer program -- a game of flowing,
descriptive text portraying a wonderful story involving creatures,
treasures, and magic. Adventure is said to have inspired Dave Leb-
ling, the creator of the ZORK games, to create adventure games.
But what exactly is Adventure?
You are an adventurer on a mission to collect a number of treasures,
learn a variety of magic words, and solve a myriad of puzzles.
Please note:
The programmers of Colossal Cave The First Adventure have studied
the orginal game to make this, the most accurate and most faithful
version of the classic game. We hope that it sparks an interest in
some of the classic games for computers.

Important Information
To alleviate any confusion, the copyright on this program extends to the
changes and additions that ImageIllusions put into creating this program
and not to the program content itself. The setting, story, and puzzles
have been released into the public domain by the game's original author
William Crowther. There are several public domain versions available on
bulletin board systems, and from shareware vendors. However, none will
come close to the depth and playability that our version achieves.
The differences between this version and other versions include: an im-
proved parser, complete instructions, hard drive installation, technical
support, etc. We are offering you the opportunity to see the difference
for yourself. We will send you a copy of the latest version of the Co-
lossal Cave The First Adventure along with a public domain copy of Ad-
venture, for $4.00 (to cover the costs of disk and postage and handling)
for 5¼ inch disk, or $5.00 for 3½ inch disk.
Future programs
We are pleased to announce that ImageIllusions is currently
working on several new programs for release in the upcoming
year.
o Colossal Cave The Second Adventure
-----------------------------------
Journey back into the cavernous mazes of the Col-
ossal Cave. An earthquake has left the cave tot-
ally destroyed -- with the dwarves stranded deep
in some section. The elves are being blamed for
the catastrophe; it's up to you to rescue the dy-
ing dwarves, and find out what exactly caused the
destruction. (late 1991)
o The Powers That Be
------------------
The story of a young boy who discovers a magical
land in the pages of an old book, is brought out
with extensive excitement and surprises. Finding
a way to save the land, as well as our own world,
is the key to the game -- an exciting game per-
fect for children, as it features no gratuitous
or graphic violence, nor does the player "die".
(mid - late 1991)
Look for these, and other, exciting new programs for your IBM or
compatible at the shareware distributor from which you received
this game, or directly from ImageIllusions.
If you have an idea for a game that you would like to see pub-
lished, send it to us at the address above along with info about
yourself. We're always on the lookout for new ideas.
